Year 10 Murals
Murals are coming along nicely! Many are finished in all three classes. These murals will brighten up the school grounds and will be able to be moved into the new buildings when they are complete.
year 9 'Pinch pot' technique - clay animals
Year 10 - chalk pen art
Year 10s are creating group murals this year. A fun practice activity was chalk drawings around the school. This was to practice cooperative working and to get used to sharing resources and being up in each others personal bubbles. This tied in with Maori Language week.
year 10 skateboard unit
This is a very popular unit! This year many students did pop art. This is one of the three year 10 classes work.
semester b art class
cultural pattern/abstract -intro to painting
This unit teaches colour theory, paint control and blending. Artist inspirations were Wassily Kandinsky, Fatu Feu’u (NZ), Sandy Adsett (NZ), Sara Hughes(NZ) and Gordan Walters (NZ).
We wanted students to feel encouraged to express their cultural identity or they could explore abstract or optical art. So lovely to see the students improve so much in the workshops and to create stunning and unique works of art.

year 10 printmaking 2018 (MISS DYSON'S CLASS)
Here are some of our lovely year 10 prints. We used tessellation and layering.
Semester A- year 9 art class (Miss Dyson's)
Alas! it is the end of a semester. Here are the lovely portraits our students created.
We learnt to use a range of tone with pencil and to draw with guidelines, with a grid and to trace with handmade tracing paper. The artworks look fabulous! Some of their abstract Victor Vasarely inspired paintings are behind them on the right.

environmental leaf art
This was a little fun one off short 15 minute activity for year 9s to get the creative juices flowing!
Students had paint, pencils, scissors and paper and a leaves from the beautiful autumn cherry blossom tree in the A block courtyard. Not everyone was happy with their final product but there are some wonderful pieces photographed here. And some wonderful pieces not photographed due to the artist not liking it!
